Having a Heart for God

What do Cinderella, Joseph and David have in common? Family members trying to defeat their destiny. There’s a new version of the Disney movie, Cinderella, and while we typically don’t use secular movies as references, there are interesting things in this version. “Ella” is abused by her evil step-sisters and at one point, when she flees to the woods in frustration, the narrator says, “It was good that Ella’s sisters abused her or she would have never met the prince,” which sounds like Job saying, “Though He (God) slay me, yet shall I trust Him.” We know that many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers us from them all. Maybe you’re looking for your Prince Charming or your purpose in life, but know that despite the trials, afflictions and adversity, God has a perfect plan for you and no one can stop God’s plan in your life.

While you might want to give up and walk away – or run from the pain, bitterness, frustration and feelings of heartache, that’s the one thing you shouldn’t do – because the devil wants you to give up. Not seeing a vision made manifest can be frustrating, especially when you’re doing all you can to speak the Word and stand on faith. At one point in the Cinderella story, the evil stepsisters acknowledge that they like abusing Ella because they see her natural beauty, joy and gifts – all things they don’t possess. Maybe you’ve found enemies at school, on the job, or in your own family that mean to cause you harm, but never go by what it looks like. Do what Mephibosheth did…

In the Bible, there’s a story about Mephibosheth who was invited to King David’s for dinner. He was worried because he had a limp from a fall he took as a child. He was also worried that he would be killed because he was the last of his remaining family members, but he went to the dinner anyway, like Cinderella at that ball. When he got there, he was shocked to find that he fit in with everyone – Who could see his leg under the table cloth? God prepares a table for us. Mephibosheth soon found out that King David was honoring him because he was the last of his blood line. David, like Joseph, was abused by his brothers, but had learned to have compassion. Remember, God’s plan is to elevate us – humbly, because no flesh can stand before Him.

No matter what you’re going through, know that God has something great in store for you. Your history doesn’t dictate your destiny, and don’t go by what you see. It might look like things are getting worse and working against you, but God works all things out in our favor. Have a heart for God and keep it filled with love, peace and joy – and never go by what the enemy might want you to see. Keep that fairy tale hope and expectation, don’t give up, and know that all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord! This month, let’s focus our attention on sharing God’s love with one another. Ways you can do this include:

  • Sharing a kind word: Sometimes people are going through life’s frustrations and they need the kindness of others. They may even apologize and tell you that they’re going through something. That’s the perfect time to pray with them.
  • Sharing a sweet note or text, or leaving a sweet voicemail message: Reach out to friends and loved ones just to check in, let them know you care and are there for them.
  • Sharing a sweet gift: Buy that big box of chocolates or cupcakes – and share it with everyone.

Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly!

Pray: Lord, I love you with all my heart. Help me to see the good in others, to not hold grudges or bitterness and to always show love. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Let me walk as Jesus taught me and help me to stay encouraged despite what I’m going through and to always see the victory. Please give me the oil of gladness that I might produce good fruit in every opportunity you provide. I love you so. Use me for your purpose and glory, in Jesus name, amen!

Understanding the need for Prayer Cards in Outreach Ministries: Our ministry is to meet people at their need and give them the scriptures that will bring deliverance, increase wisdom, inspire, uplift, encourage, and share the Prayer of Salvation. Scriptures shine God’s light in dark places. Quoting Bible verses can cancel out fear, depression, doubt, lack, sickness, and so much more! When Jesus was tested, He quoted scripture by stating, “It is written…,” because there is power in the Word. He also said that whatever you desire when you pray, believe you have it and it shall be yours!

As you shop for prayer cards, whether for your outreach ministry, sick and shut-ins, or as inserts in gifts for your women’s event, share God’s Word with one another, ask for God’s mercy and speak the scriptures you need out loud. Teach others how to tap into God’s Word. For ex., if you are sick, see the How to Rely on God prayer card, and say “By Jesus’s stripes, I am healed.” Forever God’s Word is established, meaning He cannot lie, His Word never leaves void and He will never fail us. Speak life from the Word and let the Word bring life to you today!
