The Dow is up 500 basis points, then it drops by 600. Do you leave your money in or panic and quickly take it out?
For starters, don’t worry about what the market says. What does God say…
Don’t panic. Pray…
For starters, pray and stay in faith – even before you call your broker. Sudden changes aren’t a reason to panic. We serve the Most High God who sits high and looks low. As we draw closer to God, we have to be mindful that we walk by faith, not by sight – so you might want to turn the news off, too. While you’re at it, open up your Bible and read Psalm 91.
Read your Bible and regroup: God’s got this!
Forever God’s Word is established. Because we’re in the world and not of the world, we can’t panic and jump when the world does. God has us in the palms of His hands. The Word of God says, “Be anxious for nothing. In all things with prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:6-7
The peace part is really big. It means when we hear about market fluctuation and volatility that we are to still rest in God. Now that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t call your broker. On the contrary, you should pay careful attention to your portfolio, diversify your assets and so forth. Just be mindful of your investments. Here’s how…
Increase your knowledge and wisdom…
Turn to sites like Dave Ramsey. We love this website because not only is Dave insightful, but the spiritually based messages can help you better understand how to pray and ask God for help with managing your finances.
Tune into Proverbs. There are so many tips and helpful bits of wisdom in Proverbs that it can increase your insight with saving and preparing for the future.
Give glory to God. This is another way to manage your emotions and your finances. Remember God is our provision. Markets go up and they go down, but we serve a Mighty God who doesn’t change. Jesus said once, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars.” He didn’t want us to be afraid about things to come which are signs and indications of the end times. Because we know the world is in a tumultuous state and uproar, we rest in God’s promises.
Remember Peter? Keep your eyes on Jesus
Oh that Peter. He tried to walk on water to Jesus and he did, until he thought about what he was doing and looked down. Be mindful that no matter what is going on in the world, we are not to panic, but keep looking up to our Father God. “I look to the hills. My help comes from the Lord.” God will give you strength. Just remember God’s promises…
- God will never leave us nor forsake us.
- Seek God first and He will give you the desires of your heart.
- Ask and ye shall receive. Seek and Ye shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened unto you.
- I (God) will never leave you nor forsake you.
- Whatever you desire when you pray, believe you have it and it shall be yours – Jesus.
- Wealth and riches are in thy house.
- The Glory of the Lord is my strength.
- He (The Lord) won’t let my foot slip.
- and so many other great and powerful Bible verses we can tap into when we obey God…
The devil is a liar and we have the victory!
My old pastor used to say this and we must decree it and declare it, too! God has set apart special blessings for His children, so pray without ceasing, ask, seek, knock, and know that if God be for us, who can be against us? No one, no, not one. Remember, nothing happens without God knowing or without His approval. Our wealth and treasures are laid up in heaven. Don’t panic when you see market conditions change. Pray for calming and peace. Pray for those who do not know and think jumping out of a window is the only way. The devil is a liar and we have the victory!
Rebuke the demons of anxiety
This is another big one. When you work with or are out with people who panic, that demon will try to latch onto you, too. A person might ask “Aren’t you afraid?” You have to stand firm on God’s Word and say, “I’m a Child of God. I don’t fear the news. I rest in God.” We rebuke the negative market conditions and pray for all who have their money invested in the market and 401(k)s. We pray for your savings to be covered by the blood of Jesus. We also pray for all traders, brokers and those who have to deal with the high levels of stress on a daily basis.
Don’t panic, Beloved. We walk by faith and not sight and we are vested in God. You must have faith. God will always deliver us and He will deliver you, too! That’s another one of His great promises to His people!
